March 19 – On Hypocrisy

In the Bible I am currently using, on top of Isaiah 58v3-5, the words Tenfold hypocrisy is written. And Isaiah 58v3 says:

“Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and Thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and Thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours.”

Here, the Israelites are wondering why God is not responding according to the fast they are carrying out, but God is answering them that, they are doing their own thing, even though they are carrying out the “motions.” Today too, we may be carrying out the “motions,” but do we know why God wants us to do a particular thing for instance pray or fast, and are we doing it to that end?
