April 22 – His purpose and His grace

The next thing we see in Paul’s exhortation to Timothy, talks about God and His part in all these:

“… but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,” 2 Timothy 1v8&9

“[For it is He] Who delivered and saved us and called us with a calling in itself holy and leading to holiness];[He did it] not because of anything of merit that we have done, but because of and to further His own purpose and grace (unmerited favor) which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began [eternal ages ago].” 2 Timothy 1v9 (Amplified Bible)

We see a couple of things here:
1) That He – God – hath saved us
2) And called us with an holy calling
3) He did not call us according to our own works
4) He called us according to His own purpose
5) And He called us according to His own grace
6) And that He has given us these things in Christ Jesus even before the world began

We see a lot of messages for us in just this verse. 1 is that God loves us, knows us by name, in that He had His purpose and grace available for the work He has set before us to do, even before the world began. He knew you. Remember that:

“There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.” Proverbs 21v30

Another thing that we see here, is that He did not deliver or save us according to our own works, the Bible even says that our righteousness are as filthy rags beside Him. Instead, He saved us, and called us with this holy calling—not expecting us to do it on our own, but according to His power, as verse 8 said—according to His own purpose and unmerited favour.

Hallelujah!!!

Have a blessed day.
