January 21 – What we lay up, and for whom.
The book of Ecclesiastes is full of King Solomon mulling over the reason for labour, why we do it, the vanities it entails and so on. In the first chapter, he poses the following question:
“What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?” Ecclesiastes 1v3
In addition to reflecting that naked we came and thus shall we return to the dust, leaving all out wealth behind for others, we also see in the parable of the rich fool where God says to him after he decides he has a lot, can take his ease, eat, drink an be merry:
“But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” Luke 12 v 20&21
And Jesus also asks:
“For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?” Luke 9v25
“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Luke 12v34
Have a very blessed day.
