April 27 – From Psalm 18

“For Thou wilt save the afflicted people; but wilt bring down high looks.” Psalm 18v27

The concordance of the Dakes Bible, gives some 20 ways by which man can be afflicted. This include slavery, fasting, heavy responsibility, material loss, trials, defeat in war, bodily disease, sufferings of Christ, hunger, persecutions, sufferings for Christ, mental torment, oppression, barrenness, insults, captivity, hopeless situations, imprisonment, punishment for sin and any kind of trouble and suffering.

Many things come to afflict people, but the Lord our God is mighty to save. However, He will bring down high looks. The Amplified Bible calls these haughty looks.

One verse that still fascinates me, is that which says:
“The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear Him, in those that hope in His mercy.” Psalm 147v11

But we know that God resists the proud. One of the dictionary meanings for haughty is “having or showing arrogant superiority to and disdain of those one views as unworthy.”
Those who look on others like that, God will bring down those looks, remembering that pride comes before a fall. Let’s be careful to be humble before the Lord our God, for He Himself will lift us up in His time.

Have a very wonderful day.
With much love.

Verses for thought:
“Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.” Proverbs 27v1&2
