January 31 – A little leaven … hmmm
One phrase that has stuck with me over the years from the Bible is “a little leaven.” We see written in 1 Corinthians 5v6:
“Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?”
And again in Galatians 5v9:
“A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.”
In the first instance, Paul was speaking to the church in Corinth, about fornication which was taking place between one and is father’s wife. And reprimanding them not to be puffed up about it, but should mourn and take such a one away from among them, then 1 Corinthians 5v6.
In the second instance in Galatians 5, the chapter talks about the liberty that the believer has. In the verse precluding verse 9, it says:
“This persuasion cometh not of Him that calleth you.”
What persuasion? In the Amplified Bible, it reads:
“This [evil] persuasion is not from Him Who called you [Who invited you to freedom in Christ].” Galatians 5v8 (Amplified Bible).
Have a wonderful day.
From the Amplified Bible:
“A little leaven (a slight inclination to error, or a few false teachers) leavens the whole lump [it perverts the whole conception of faith or misleads the whole church].” Galatians 5v9
“For [if we are] in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith activated and energizes and expressed and working through love.” Galatians 5v6
